 Questions

Do ALL teachers have to attend the Basic Implementation Training?
Yes.  In order for all staff members to fully participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), they need to have a common knowledge base, concept understanding and shared vision.  The EISS Basic Implementation Training is designed to meet this need with research-based best practices.  It is one of the assurances that all teachers agree to for participation and grant funding.

How will our school site receive information from the EISS office?
Most information will be emailed to the Site Coordinator for dissemination at their school site.  It is VITAL that the Site Coordinator's email address be kept current.  If the Site Coordinator changes, it is the the site administrator's responsibility to inform the EISS office of any changes.

Can we use our own site or district trainers and/or coaches?
Not unless they are EISS State Certified Trainers and Coaches.  EISS State Certified Trainers and Coaches must be utilized to meet the grant requirements.  These highly trained associates are current in research-based best practices to meet the needs of California schools and understand the challenges associated with them.

How can we get a list of EISS State Certified Trainers and Coaches?
For a current listing of State Certified EISS Trainers and Coaches please contact the EISS office.

Even though coaching is not required the first year of the grant, can we still receive coaching?
Yes.  Coaching is optional the first year, but HIGHLY recommended.  The coaching is designed to help school sites meet their individual EISS goals.

What will happen during the Site Follow-Up Visit by the EISS staff?
An EISS staff member will visit your school site to help provide you with support and answer any questions you have about the EISS program.  It also is a way to verify that the grant assurances are being met and allows your site to provide actual evidence.  The EISS staff member will meet with the teachers and support staff, observe in classrooms, and meet with the principal/director and the Site Coordinator.  This visit is not meant to be punitive, instead it is a hands-on method to provide guidance and support to help your site reach its individual goals.

Who should attend EISS Training of Trainers?
This teacher must have attended the Basic Implementation 2 day training, attended Research Institute and has a desire to learn more about EISS.  They will be the "on-site support" for continuing EISS implementation after grant funding ceases and to help disseminate the EISS program to other school sites in their area.

Can more than one teacher attend EISS Training of Trainers?
Yes.  Grant funds provides for one teacher, but additional teachers are invited to attend.  Other site funding can be used to pay for the training.

If teachers are sharing a contract, do they both report data?
Both teachers will be collecting the data and will work together to record student progress on the continuum.  However, for reporting purposes, please choose one teacher's name to report the data under and use that name all year.

How do I share the continuum information with parents?
Continuum information should be shared with parents during regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences.  This will support parent awareness when they are asked to complete the parent survey at the end of each grant year.

What do I do with the continuum at the end of the year?
The continuum is a living document and a powerful tool to support instructional decisions as well as individual student progress.  The continuum is kept at your school and passed to the next teacher.  As a professional learning community, you will be devising a plan to send the continuums on to the next teacher.

Can we reapply for funding immediately after our second year?
No.  School sites must wait one year before reapplying.  This allows more school sites to receive the benefits of the EISS program.  It also allows each site time to re-evaluate their needs and develop a concise action plan.

Can we move funding from Year 1 to Year 2?
Yes.  You will be notified of the deadline for budget modifications from Year 1 to Year 2.  No monies can be carried over past Year 2.

Do we have to submit a Purchase Order for the required components of the grant?  (i.e. Research Institute, Administrator's Symposium, Materials Ordering...)
No.  These fees will be retained by the EISS office.
